I spent the week before our move in Baltimore with my friends Krysten and Colleen. They had to work the whole week so I spent the days by myself sleeping in and watching Bravo reality tv shows. As someone who lived without a tv for over a year, it was heaven. At night the three of us would make dinner and drink and catch up. We've known each other for many years so there are a lot of inside jokes to dust off after a few margaritas.
The night before the move, I mega bus'd it back to Philadelphia and stayed on my friend Sam's couch. Before I left to meet Chris the next day, I penned a touching goodbye note.
"Goodbye (Indian) Sam. I will always love you (despite your many flaws)"
It really came from the heart. Then Chris and I headed up to his parents house (where all our stuff was being stored) to pack up the van.
We actually didn't have a ton of stuff for two people. Probably because we've both lived in small pre-furnished bedrooms for the last couple years. Once the van was packed up tight, we passed out. We woke up at 6 the next morning, said goodbye to his brothers, my dog niece Ellie, and my stray kitten besties and hit the road. His (saintly) parents accompanied us for the weekend so we wouldn't have to pay the high price of a one-way rental. We've done the 10-12 hour drive to South Carolina a few times but it's not something you ever get used to. After 6 hours in the car, I start thinking about tucking and rolling onto US-95. So the fact that they did that drive twice in 2 days is just crazy, and greatly appreciated. While long, the drive was pretty uneventful.
10 minutes later, we were home!!!!
To be continued
